Jenn Korenchuk

I believe lasting change comes from getting to the heart of the issue, not just treating the symptoms.

Hi, I’m Jenn.

Is your child or teen struggling with anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, trauma, or challenges related to their LGBTQIA+ identity? These struggles can deeply impact not just their well-being, but also your family relationships, friendships, and school life. As a caregiver, you may feel overwhelmed by the pressure to provide the right support, especially when societal expectations bring feelings of shame, blame, or guilt. You’re not alone in this. With empathy and support, we can work together toward healing and connection for your child and your family.

For over 20 years, I’ve been working with families, helping children and teens navigate these tough issues with compassion, humor, and evidence-based practices. I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ youth, trauma survivors, and teens facing self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Therapy for me is about getting to the root of the issue—whether it’s trauma, family challenges, or anything else that might be blocking the path to healing. Together, we’ll create a plan that promotes symptom relief and long-term growth.

If you’re a caregiver feeling lost or unsure how to support your child, I offer a partnership rooted in empathy and practical guidance. We’ll develop a therapy plan that’s tailored to your family’s needs, fostering emotional well-being for everyone.

My background & approach

In my practice, I use an integrative approach, combining cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, family systems, trauma-informed care, and a multicultural lens. This blend helps me provide evidence-based interventions that empower clients to achieve meaningful goals. I have advanced training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Juvenile Sexual Offender Treatment, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Parent Management Training - The Oregon Model, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

I have supervised clinical teams and counseling students, emphasizing self-care, cultural humility, and ethical, competent practice. I also serve as an adjunct faculty member at Oakland University and the University of Detroit Mercy. My research focuses on evidence-based practice, practitioner wellness, and closing the gap between research and clinical care to improve and increase access to mental health services.

Jennifer’s current passion projects include her research-practice partnerships focused on expanding access to high-quality care and preventing and reducing clinician burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Jennifer is a member of the American Counseling Association, Association for Assessments and Research, Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and American Civil Liberties Union - Michigan Chapter.
